Speech on Global warming

Good morning to one and all present here today I Soham Kulkarni am standing before you to tell the speech on global warming.

The global warming the single greatest environmental challenge facing this planet. The fuel we use to power our homes, our cars, and our businesses is causing the earth to warm faster than anyone expected.

Over the past century, the average temperatures have gone up by just over one degree. This may not seem like much, but many scientists agree that the earth's temperatures are starting to increase at a faster rate.

Global Warming is when the earth heats up (the temperature rises). It happens when greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane) trap heat and light from the sun in the earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature. This hurts many people, animals, and plants. Many cannot make the change, so they die like polar bears and penguins that live in such cold regions.

Think about what happens when you open your car door after the windows have been rolled up on a hot day. The heat from the sun enters the car, but the frame of the car prevents it from escaping.

Causes

To a mall extent, this is a representation of what happens during global warming. Burning fossil fuels like petroleum and deforestation both contribute to the problem.

The hurricanes are doubling up in nature in terms of occurrence. Further, the Greenland and Western Antarctic ice sheets are at great risk of melting completely. Please note that these two ice sheets presently hold around 20% of the Earth’s freshwater. The rise in sea levels will damage the coastal areas globally. Moreover, the regularity of hurricanes, tornadoes, and others may become more volatile spreading malaria and other deadly diseases.

The oceans are rising and the coral reefs are dying. Many aquatic species are going extinct while the glaciers are melting. You will be surprised to know that Greenland is losing 20% more mass than it receives from new snowfall.

Antarctica recorded maximum of 20 degree Celsius first time in history because of the increase of the temperature

Thus, it will keep shrinking as the earth warms. Moreover, extreme weather patterns are for everyone to see. The heatwaves, droughts, floods, are now taking place with greater intensity and frequency.

Also we have suffered from various disasters all because of us

Disasters like

1/Sangli – Kolhapur suffered tremendous flood during June – July 2019 because of extra rain. Because of the increase and decrease in temperature sometimes there will be drought but sometimes there can be a flood

2/Recently in January 2020 the largest bushfire occurred in Australia because of global warming. Almost one full generation of tiny animals like mongoose,  lizard, etc died due to global warming

3/people living in coastal plains get harm.

Solutions

Now people are awakening towards global warming .great personalities like Greta Thunberg, Leonardo DiCaprio is playing an important rule to spread awareness of global warming. The time is now to do something to prevent global warming; otherwise, it will be irreversible. Electricity and transportation contribute largely to global warming, so we must begin there. It is important to note that there is no silver bullet and we must all come together to tackle global warming as a whole. Every home, business, industry, individual effort is required to tackle this crisis.

We must reduce coal consumption. We can also use more electric vehicle which will not need

We must plant more and more trees for the reduction of global warming.

On an individual level also, we must work to adopt a greener and healthier lifestyle. Try to drive less and walk more or take public transport. Get into the habit of recycling and avoid unnecessary wastage of goods. Save electricity by switching off appliances when not in use.  Most importantly, plant a tree as a single tree can absorb one ton of carbon dioxide in its lifetime. Thus, remember, the change begins with you.

Climate change has happened many times over the history of the Earth, including the coming and going of ice ages. But modern climate change is different because people are putting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere very quickly.[7]

Since the 1800s, people have recorded daily temperature. By about 1850, there were enough places measuring temperature so that scientists could know the global average temperature. Compared with before people started burning a lot of coal for industry, the temperature has risen by about 1 °C (1.8 °F).[2] Starting in 1979, satellites started measuring the temperature of the Earth.

Before 1850, there were not enough temperature measurements for us to know how warm or cold it was. Climatologists use proxy measurements to try to figure out past temperatures before there were thermometers. This means measuring things that change when it gets colder or warmer. One way is to cut into a tree and measure how far apart the growth rings are. Trees that live a long time can give us an idea of how temperature and rain changed while it was alive.

For most of the past 2000 years, the temperature didn't change much. There were times where the temperatures were a little warmer or cooler. One of the most famous warm times was the Medieval Warm Period and one of the most famous cool times was the Little Ice Age. Other proxy measurements like the temperature measured in deep holes mostly agree with the tree rings. Tree rings and boreholes can only help scientists work out the temperature back to about 1000 years ago. Ice cores are also used to find out the temperature back to about half a million years ago.

So from this, we can understand that every each individual should be aware of global warming.

This is the time we can do for our environment. Otherwise in future it will affect human generation also

So let us take an oath to protect our environment from global warming

For this, we can plant more trees and not using the greenhouse effect.

Global warming is not a trend, it is an end

Thank you
