I want to share with you is looking at on-page SEO and off
page SEO what the difference is and what are some of the key elements to focus
on now keep in mind there's a lot of elements when it comes to on-page and
off-page SEO so we won't be covering every single nitty gritty in detail but as
you continue to go through some of the videos that I have on my website you'll
definitely be able to learn many more things that are on page or off page
search engine optimization that'll help grow your business get it ranked higher
and in the end increase your sales and customers so in this video I want to
really hone in and focus on on-page SEO and off page SEO what the difference is
and just some of the key important factors so let's take a quick look alright
so if we take a look at the on-page and then we also look at the off page the
primary difference between these two variations for optimizing your website is
that on-page is really related to what's on your website okay so it's
everything related that goes on within your own website you typically have most
of the control when you're doing things that are on page off page in fact
though has things to do with things that are not in your website so it could be
like link building it could be other elements but they help get your page
ranked higher or build your brand or build your credibility so in either case
off page is these external things that you're doing in order to help your
website but on-page is what you can actually directly control on your website
itself so as we take a look at some of these elements and I'll show you some
real examples here in a minute but when we look at on-page SEO there's a few
different kinds of things that you can focus on obviously this isn't the full
list but one of those things is of course the content when you look at the
content there's a variety of factors that go along with the content so you can
look at for example the quality of the content whether you're just trying to do
content for the search engines or you actually have real in-depth high quality
content that's in detail it could also be in things like the keywords so if you
have good keywords that are targeted specifically for let's just say the search
things that people are doing then again that content is going to be ranked
higher because it includes the keywords that people are searching for also it
might be things like how fresh your content is are you updating content
periodically so again this just is the frequency of things every time that that
spider or robot comes to your website are they seeing fresh or new content or
is it pretty much the same thing so those are all good things that'll help you
know your on-page factors and this is just based on content alone but of course
there's other factors so if you look at the titles the titles that you use on your
a search engine optimized title so the SEO title in the title tag that you use
also how is that you know how is it written is it written well does it have the
keywords are the keywords at the beginning of those titles or are they more at
the end so again I'll show you some of those examples here in a minute also
looking at the description okay so if you look for the description right under
the websites as they get listed in search engines how are those written now not
every time will the description be used but it's a helpful little guide to help
the search engines continue to scan your website and see what it's all about
then also alt tags or image alt tags so these things also help scan your images
and things like that then you start getting into things like the URLs or the
though it links the way that they are built right with the tags so if you have
a link that's logo - design this all of a sudden gets you a little bit of a
keyword there now you to stuff these kinds of things but it does help are they
short are they long do they have keywords another thing that could happen is
low time if your site loads very quickly this is handy but if it loads slowly
then this could be a problem so another thing to consider so these are all just
little things that will help rank your website higher due to search engines I
would say if anything if you're looking to focus on any primary thing then
content would be the key so focus on very good content update it quite often
and look at your you know some basic title tags and that should get you know
the 80/20 principle or ninety percent of what you need so if you're constantly
producing good quality content this not only helps your visitors but it also
helps the search engines so if you're thinking about writing for search engines
remember search engines are trying to mimic and help the visitors so in essence
if you're writing good quality content visitors will keep coming back then in
the end you'll get ranked higher in search engines anyway so focus on content
if you build good quality content high quality in-depth it's fresh you
constantly update things you don't spam you don't stuff keywords you create
nice titles you should be good these other factors and a bunch of other ones beyond
this also are beneficial to help get you going and they do help your rankings
but I would say if you're looking at the 80/20 rule you know as far as on-page
goes those are the primary things to focus on now when you get into the off
page factors there's a lot of things that go with off page as well now one of
the main things is links so just like in grade school or high school the more
people that know you the more popular you are and links the more websites that
constantly link back to your website means the more popular you are so it
builds credibility now sometimes this could be used as a you know it can be
used in a very bad way in a back in the day when search engines first got
started they used link and there was a lot of spammy links or there was just
link farms that were being created and these things eventually the spiders and
Google and all the search engines recognized that there were spammy links so
those started to kind of count against you and word didn't really help you too
much so it's not just about links it's also about the quality of links okay so
just like here it's not just about but you know 5,000 pages of content with one
paragraph on each page it's about you know having multiple paragraphs multiple
pages of content the same thing here with links it's about quality website so
the higher the value or the more popular the website that links back to you the
more important it is that it's going to help you also this goes along with the
text okay so the text that's linking back to you if everybody links back to you
saying great logo design logo design company custom logo design then you know
probably get ranked higher for logo design related keywords on the other hand
if they're linking you for let's say print material then you'll probably get
ranked really well for print related material so again those things are also
important now you can kind of help this or somewhat skew it depending on your
URL or your domain name but that's just another factor otherwise the name of
your company could be beneficial to helping or building this link text out
there's other factors that go along with building links and that is also the
history or how long those links have been on there if they've been on there for
a long time you know are they dot edu or Gov. websites which are usually more
helpful or more credible so those things also help you out in terms of building
your links also social networks now search engines are incorporating those how
many social network links do you have that are pointing back to your website as
well so all that helps build credibility and this can include you know forum
postings like forums or discussions so all those things helped build the off
Paige Factor you can get off page related things from even business cards so there's
many more variations and these are just basically techniques and tactics but
ultimately again if you're looking for off page concepts the primary thing to
focus on off page is building high quality links that's what you want to focus
on so if you're looking for on-page and off-page 4 on page focus on the content
building a great quality content and 4 off page get more people to link back to
you whether that's you know the techniques are endless some people do link
exchanges other people just write guest post guest articles so there's a lot of
various methods to getting links and that just comes with hard work but in
essence that's what you want to do build high quality content for on-page
related things build also links for the off page things of course all the
additional things help just like with on-page but the main things are these
kinds of two concepts to getting your website ranked higher within the search
engines so if I take a quick look at some websites here just for tips on
building an online business so here as I start looking you can see that some
websites right away you can see here's the title right away it gives you the
title that's the blue part the URL is this green part that you can see okay and
usually the description is right under that URL so the description is just
slightly right under there now not always do they use the description that you
wrote within Google but they'll may take pieces and parts of it now when you
start looking at writing your on-page content and you start looking at SEO you
can see that the closer or the more important that you have the keyword let's
just say we're searching for in this piece tips to building an online business
and you can see a few moments later as you scroll down through these results
here's five tips for building an online community for your business and this is
from entrepreneur.com obviously it has more links it's more popular so it'll
get ranked higher and again here is five tips but then later on you'll see here
are tips and here are tips and then eight steps for building and then tips are
over here in this link so obviously the closer that you have tips to the
beginning so the closer you have tips to the beginning the more helpful it is
now this isn't always the case because as you can see with one result over here
it's fairly close but this result out ranked it for whatever reason but in
general the closer you have the tips to the beginning the more important that
word is whereas you compare it over here to this one where it's tips and tricks
headquarters you can see tips is all the way at the end and then you get to
another website and you see tips again at the beginning so in either case
looking at those things you start evaluating websites this is just basically
the the headline or the SEO title and then you also have the description now
you can see here in the URL as well where we have some pages that also bold
those tags or bold those page names so that's why it's important to kind of
list or name or that page name as you're writing out your content so as we
start looking at things and you start seeing some of these websites you'll
slowly start browsing across some popular website so they'll just pick a random
page here and just to get get things moving and here you'll see in duct tape
marketing here here's the page you can see we have 10 tips to help you build an
online successful business or brand so you can see it's getting ranked there's
duct tape marketing you can see business right there is in that article it's
not perfect in in the sense it's not ranked number one but we'll give you some
idea maybe we can take apart some some on-page and off-page related things so
here as we start looking at this page and you start evaluating it you can see
right at the top this is a headline so this would be on-page SEO here also we
have a picture so this picture if it has an alt tag let's just see if we
inspect it right here you might be able to see if there's any tags related to
that and you can usually look at the source but you'll see right here content
and we'll see if they have it featured image so they don't have an alt tag but
sometimes some images you can see right there it's empty the alt tag right
there is empty but some images they have an alt tag to help discuss what the
image is all about as you continue reading through this if I just do a ctrl F
and I start searching for tips you can see there's another tip that comes up if
I continue going down there's again links into tips and then if I search for
let's just say business so you can see business there there's the word business
is used throughout again these are all on-page related things for keywords as
you look through the page so they use the word business fairly heavy and
there's also if we look for online because we look for online if we continue to
scroll up you can see there's online a few times but there's not a lot of
online so again this is ranked really well more so because of maybe the value
of the name itself the duct tape marketing just the value of that domain and
the company so there's a lot of links potentially pointing back to it along
with the content that matches up for the user and they've done a good content
piece let's take a quick look at another one let's just see here if we go to
social media examiner right here from an article from 2011 six tips for
starting an online community if we go ahead and click this again you can see
tips is at the beginning and online but it's not a business but it matches well
because if I go through and I do again ctrl F and I just look for business they
probably mentioned the word business quite a bit so let's just take a look and
you see business business business there's business and highlights all of them
look at this know your business look how many times they use the word business
so this is one of the reasons even though the headline there is for starting an
online community it's really going after a lot of business folks right so if we
look for it you can see it uses about forty nine business related keywords so
even in the comments so this again is that on page related concept look at this
business business business so you can see how this really starts to play a huge
role within search engines it's not the only factor but it gives you an idea
good quality content that allows people to comment engage that's all on page
the off page factor is if we just take a look at breaking down the off-page
factors let's just see how many people are linking to social media examiner or
how many people are linking to that page directly so what you need to do here
is to take a look at building the links now links can be through social media
it can be through just other websites it can be through YouTube this is going
to compile from all sorts of sources so you can take either a tool or just natural
popularity once you know your business pretty well and I know the SEO industry
I know that social media examiner is pretty popular since they also do a lot of
events you know and they do a lot of workshops and things like that in the
marketing space so they are fairly popular and obviously since they are popular
more people are going to link back to them but what you could do is if you
search for things link checker tool so when you look for a link checker tool
what you can do is look for a pub probably a backlink checker tool and you can
find them and the reason I say do this rather than pointing you to one specific
tool is because these tools will constantly change so if we go to moz.com and i
go to social media examiner high-quality inbound link potential you can see
it'll give you a quick little evaluation here about the domain Authority spam
score page Authority root domains and how many links are actually linking to
them a hundred and fourteen thousand links going into them which is a lot of a
lot of links so as you can see this page is very popular and you can see it's
coming in from a copy blogger from big websites Hub Spot SMI Co schedule I mean
there are so many websites that are linking duct tape marketing that we even
saw right here if I click it right here and we go to live streaming they
probably will have social media you can see social media examiner this is
another link right there which they get linked to which this is basically the
off page marketing off page SEO that they're doing so you can see if they can
get linked from other websites helps point them back to it and this is what off
page SEO is ultimately all about so in order to really build up your search
engine rankings you need off page and on page SEO you can really control the on
page quite a bit the off page you can influence but it's very difficult to
control it directly so it takes great quality content you know making
networking connections building your reputation and just giving either
incentives or encouraging people or just having a really killer website content
application software or whatever it is in your industry that what makes people
want to actually link back to you and that's where you can build that off page
marketing so creating a both or a combination of both will really help build
your rankings higher in the search engines and get them higher so continue to
create content and continue to network and engage with other websites in your
industry so that way you can build that off page marketing as well
